Campaign website essentials
What belongs on an Australian council candidate website?
Make the candidate, council and electoral area easy to identify. Add a short biography, priorities relevant to the council, current campaign contact details and ways to express volunteer interest. Use ward, division or whole council area as appropriate to your election. PoliticalWin brings those pages, news, events and public forms together; your campaign reviews the authorisation and privacy information before sharing the site.
The community edition
Four useful parts of a local campaign site.
Prepared layouts give the website a consistent structure. Your photographs, words and local details make it your campaign's own.
Choose a starting designINTRODUCTION
A recognisable candidate profile
Add your biography, approved photograph and reasons for standing. Keep the council, office and campaign contact prominent so residents know which campaign they have found.
LOCAL PRIORITIES
A short overview with room for detail
Explain the priorities in plain language and give each main issue its own page. Readers can take a quick look or follow a link to understand the proposal more fully.
COMMUNITY CONTACT
Australian fields, optional postcodes
Selecting Australia provides state and territory choices and Australian postcode support. Postcodes are optional on public forms; turn off postal collection in Campaign Profile if you do not need the field.
CAMPAIGN UPDATES
News and events you can maintain
Add updates, photographs and event details through guided dashboard fields. Keep the date, venue and contact information current as the campaign develops.
A practical campaign notebook
Turn the local details into useful campaign pages.
A resident may arrive after a conversation, a community meeting or a leaflet. Help them find the introduction, the detail and the next contact without having to piece them together.
Start with the council and candidate
Use the exact office and electoral-area wording for your nomination. Introduce your connection to the community and the experience you bring, without presenting every local campaign as a ward contest.
Give each priority enough space
Begin with a short overview, then use issue pages for the fuller explanation. Relate the proposals to the council's responsibilities and link to useful public sources where appropriate.
Keep the noticeboard current
Publish campaign news and event times in predictable places. Provide clear contact and volunteer forms, and agree who will review responses as they arrive.
Prepare your first edition
Prepare a local site you can stand behind.
Start with a focused set of pages, review the public details and keep one consistent website address on your campaign materials.
Gather the local essentials
Prepare your name, council, office, electoral area, campaign email, biography and approved photographs. Check the details against the relevant election guidance.
Choose a design and add your content
Select Australia during signup, then build your introduction, priorities and participation options in the dashboard. Choose whether your public forms collect postcodes.
Review before sharing
Check authorisation wording and placement against your jurisdiction's requirements, review privacy information, and test links and forms on a phone.
Make the address easy to recognise
Use your PoliticalWin campaign address or connect a domain you control. Keep the same web address across your public campaign materials.
Before you choose
The practical details, clearly stated.
- Know the currency
- Current plans are billed in USD. Domain registration and external services are separate; check the plan and billing terms before checkout.
- Collect only what you need
- Decide what form responses are for and who will handle them. Review the requirements that apply to your campaign rather than assuming every political activity has the same privacy treatment.
- Check language and hosting fit
- Current publishing choices are English, Spanish and English/Spanish. Other native language options are not available. Selecting Australia does not establish Australian hosting or data residency.
Useful answers
Questions before you start.
Check the website features, publishing options and campaign responsibilities.
Can councillor, mayoral and shire-president candidates use it?
Yes. Enter your own office title and council area, then use the candidate profile, priorities, news, events and forms. A mayor or shire president may be directly elected or chosen by councillors, depending on the jurisdiction and council. Describe the actual office and election you are contesting.
Does every council campaign need a ward name?
No. Councils can use wards, divisions or an undivided council area. Use the terminology and boundaries confirmed by the relevant electoral authority. The ACT has no separate local councils; an ACT Legislative Assembly campaign belongs with the state and territory website examples.
Will visitors have to enter an Australian postcode?
No. Postcodes are optional on public forms. When supplied, Australian postcodes use four digits, including a leading zero where applicable. If you do not need them, switch off postal collection in Campaign Profile to hide the field. Existing saved submissions are retained.
Can the website display my campaign's authorisation?
Yes. The dashboard has an editable footer disclaimer field that displays the text your campaign saves. Enter your reviewed authorisation wording there and check the public pages against the rules for your election. PoliticalWin does not generate, validate or certify a legally compliant authorisation.
Can I connect an Australian domain name?
Yes. You can connect a domain you control through the custom-domain setup. Registration and renewal are separate, and .au namespaces have eligibility rules: review auDA's guidance or ask your registrar about your situation. An Australian domain does not establish where PoliticalWin hosts or stores data.
Are the plans priced in Australian dollars?
No. The current public plans are billed in USD. The publishing choices are English, Spanish and English/Spanish; the bilingual plan is not an arbitrary choice of two languages. Review currency and language fit before choosing a plan.
