Campaign website essentials
What does a Canadian federal candidate website need?
A federal campaign website should identify the candidate and electoral district, explain the candidate's background and priorities, and make campaign contact, events and volunteering easy to find. PoliticalWin provides the pages and forms. The campaign reviews authorization, privacy, expenses and any external donation destination with the people responsible for those areas.
Your public information hub
A site map your campaign can work from.
This is a practical content plan, not an extra software package. The same guided editing tools support each part of the website.
/ ABOUT
The candidate
Introduce your background, experience and local connection. Keep the office title and electoral district consistent across the site and campaign materials.
/ PRIORITIES
The substance
Give each priority a clear explanation and an appropriate level of detail. Your campaign decides what to publish and checks factual claims before they go live.
/ NEWS & EVENTS
The current campaign
Publish announcements and event information in places visitors can find again. Review dates and locations when plans change.
/ GET INVOLVED
The next conversation
Provide volunteer and contact forms with optional Canadian postal codes, or hide postal collection. Review incoming responses through the campaign dashboard.
A practical publishing desk
One reference point for a fast-moving campaign.
A candidate biography, an event announcement and a volunteer invitation have different jobs. Give each a clear destination on the same website.
Introduce the candidate and riding
Make your name, the office you seek and the electoral district unmistakable. Connect your biography to the local campaign without presenting the site as an official government service.
Publish information people can revisit
Use dedicated pages for priorities and campaign news. Link approved external material where useful, while keeping your local candidate information easy to find.
Keep participation routes clear
Make contact, volunteering and event details easy to reach on a phone. Add an external donation link only when your campaign has confirmed the destination is appropriate.
From first draft to public site
Build a publication routine around the website.
A clear review process helps your team keep the site current. These responsibilities sit with your campaign; the website does not automate regulatory approval.
Prepare approved content
Gather the biography, priorities, photographs and campaign contact details. Confirm who checks new material and who updates the website.
Confirm the finance workflow
Have the official agent review website-related expenses and the campaign's donation arrangements. Keep invoices and use the current Elections Canada guidance.
Review public-facing details
Check the privacy notice, required authorization wording and external links. Confirm language needs before selecting a plan; English/French publishing is not currently built in.
Publish, check and maintain
Review the site on desktop and mobile, connect a domain you control and keep contact information current. Send voters to Elections Canada for official voting information.
Decide with the details in view
A practical fit for your campaign?
- A website, with a clear scope
- PoliticalWin provides campaign pages, forms and publishing tools. Political contributions and tax receipts remain with the campaign's external arrangements.
- Be clear about language
- Current plans offer English, Spanish and English/Spanish. Native English/French bilingual publishing is not currently supported.
- Review currency and data needs
- Plan prices are in USD. A Canada setting or .ca domain is not a Canadian-hosting guarantee; review the privacy terms and ask support about any residency requirement.
Before you start
Questions from Canadian campaigns
Clear answers about the website, the workflow and what your campaign should review.
Can a federal candidate use their own domain?
Yes. You can connect a domain your campaign controls through the custom-domain workflow. Domain registration is separate. If you choose a .ca domain, the registrant must meet CIRA's Canadian Presence Requirements.
Can independent and party-affiliated candidates use it?
Yes. Both can use the campaign website, content dashboard and public forms. It is not a voter-file or canvassing system. Your campaign decides which information belongs on the candidate site and which should link to approved party or third-party resources.
Can the site link to our donation service?
Yes. Your campaign can add an external donation URL. PoliticalWin does not process political contributions, determine donor eligibility or issue tax receipts. Have the people responsible for campaign finance review the chosen destination and wording.
Should the official agent review website costs?
Yes. Elections Canada's candidate guidance addresses campaign website design, hosting and maintenance expenses. Read it alongside the current new-rules updates, keep relevant invoices and have the official agent determine the correct treatment for your campaign.
Is English/French bilingual publishing available?
Not currently. PoliticalWin supports English, Spanish and English/Spanish. A federal campaign that needs French or bilingual policy pages should confirm that requirement before signing up. The English/Spanish plan should not be treated as an English/French solution.
Will this guarantee search rankings or AI recommendations?
No. Clear pages, useful answers, descriptive metadata and a good mobile experience help people and search systems understand a website, but search rankings, indexing and inclusion in AI answers are not guaranteed.
